WARNING! This is not another version of the debut by the famous British band, but a new, European, limited and at last great-sounding reissue of the sensational debut album by an American band (modelled on Jefferson Airplane) using male and female vocals! Released by Mercury in September 1968, it is sadly the only album by a group playing ambitious and varied psychedelic rock with elements of folk (the absolutely brilliant 'Gloomy Sunday', adorned with the dark sound of cello and violin, wonderfully and hauntingly sung - one of my all-time favourite songs and at the same time, in its original Hungarian version from 1933, responsible for over... 100 suicides!), a delicate, melodic ballad ('Suzanne' - a very early 'cover' from the repertoire of Leonard Cohen), but also heavy sounds in the vein of Cream and Hendrix (the expansive, 16-minute 'The World Without You', full of dynamic guitar improvisations and at the same time catchy; and finally the opening track, at times almost proto metal, really heavy, though gently sung 'Angeline')! With the exception of the short and merely good Mary, Mary - the whole thing is excellent! IT has always been one of my favourite records from the American psychedelic rock circle! Incidentally, the American Genesis was the reason for the troubles with the name of their British rivals (with Peter Gabriel), which is why the British edition of 'From Genesis To Revelation' (March 1969) was released without the band's name on the cover! After the Americans split up there were no more obstacles. Additionally included is a track from the rare 1969 compilation of various artists, 'The Long Road'. Once again: excellent sound that beats the earlier, muffled CD editions and the YouTube versions! ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL)
