This release (1978) has great historical value – it documents one of Captain Beefheart's (Don Van Vliet) last concerts before his complete withdrawal from music. The music seems chaotic, sounds like controlled chaos, where blues meets the avant-garde. It is not easy, "entertaining" material, but a performance by an artist working on his own terms. The second CD is a real treat for fans, containing an addition of the "behind the scenes + bonuses" kind. ONLY ONE COPY! New, sealed. -

The Doc Thomas Group was a band whose members were: the vocalist Stan Tippins, the guitarists Mick Ralphs and Dave Tedstone, the bassist Pete Watts and the drummer Bob Hall. Performing at an Italian club they received an offer of a record contract from the local label Interrecord and in October 1966 in Milan recorded an album titled "Doc Thomas Group". It was released in January 1967, but unfortunately only in Italy, and the band soon after changed its name to Shakedown Sound, and then to Silence. After they began working with Guy Stevens of Island Records, Tippins was forced to leave. He was replaced by Ian Hunter and the group changed its name to Mott The Hoople. On this CD the "Italian" album (renamed "Italian Job") is joined by fifteen Silence tracks recorded after the reunion, in October 1990. -
