A solid, uncensored history of hard rock and hair metal of the eighties, told by the musicians and music-industry figures who experienced it personally. From the first, hardest days, when musicians had to finance their own recordings and personally prepare the staging of the concerts, flashy and bold at that; through the years of glory, multi-platinum records and success on MTV, stadium anthems and ballads topping the charts; right up to the final fall, when grunge bands such as Nirvana changed the shape of the music industry for ever. Jedna Wielka Impreza faithfully captures the atmosphere of those years, their energy and mood, the madness and excess, and it does so in the words of musicians, managers, producers, sound engineers, label bosses, advertising specialists, stylists, costume designers, photographers, journalists, magazine publishers, music video directors, club accountants, technicians, groupies and people accompanying the bands – people who lived through all of it first-hand. Drawing on over two hundred original interviews with members of bands such as Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Guns N’Roses, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Winger, Warrant, Cinderella, Quiet Riot, as well as with Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford and many others, the authors created a solid, uncensored and at times slightly unreal chronicle of the times when excess and success went hand in hand; a chronicle told by the men and women who created the sound and style that defined the musical era of the eighties – a style by which, for the bands and their fans, every day was like one big party. 500 pages + a 16-page insert with colour photographs, paperback.

Oh, that heroic New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, full of glory and madness! It was 1979, when the representatives of this newly born, crazy genre of heavy metal were shovelling earth onto the coffin of punk music, while at the same time mourning the stars of early hard rock who were fading into the shadows - or rather experiencing their decline - that is, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep. In the book "Wheels of Steel – Eksplozja Nowej Fali Brytyjskiego Heavy Metalu" Martin Popoff presents the whole long period of preparation for the outbreak of this metal mania, from the early 70s up to the first years of the reign of this phenomenon, that is, 1979 and 1980. Using the narrative typical of his writing, rich in detailed, chronological entries forming a framework for the whole story, Popoff considers all the reasons why the NWOBHM had to happen, and then presents a complete list of all the singles, albums, concerts and conceptual trends of those two extraordinary years - a period that was essentially one big welcome party for the arrival of heavy metal. Join Martin and many of his good old heavy metal buddies and immerse yourself in reading their shared stories about the birth of this particular genre, its roguish, rebellious growing up and its beginnings. Heavy metal was never the same again after that. The reasons for this state of affairs, presented thoroughly and meticulously, you will, of course, read about in this book. 296 pages, illustrated, paperback.
