This is the first book about Budgie (made on the basis of long conversations with the first line-up) - but what a book! First, its print premiere takes place in Poland and second, it is a dream book for every Budgie fan as well as for vinyl record collectors and lovers of that era in general! The author (a New Zealander) is a manic fan of the band and has such things in his collection that you can only envy! The text is very concise, the photos of the band, sleeves, record labels, press cuttings, old adverts - incredible (a pity they are black and white, but at least on excellent paper...). It could not have been done better! Well, it could have been taken further, but here is a surprise: another volume with the next FOUR albums ('In For The Kill', 'Bandolier', 'If I Were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules' and 'Impeckable'). -

After many decades, I can see the Polish edition of the book Hereticvs. The original, Italian version, to put it bluntly, was plain and modest. "Impressionist Symphony" (2014) is a project by Cyrille Verdeaux, creator known for his work under the Clearlight banner, which combines progressive rock with influences of classical music. The album was created as a concept inspired by impressionism and the work of composers such as Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. The material was recorded with the participation of many musicians from different countries, keyboard instruments, synthesisers and piano parts dominate here, supplemented by guitars and symphonic elements. The excellent studio record was released in a digipak by Metal Blade Records - in existence since 1982 and probably the most important record label in the history of metal, where over 20 years ago Metallica and Slayer started out! What is there to write - the album is superb (like every one recorded by Mike and co.) and probably their best since 2005! Most bands, on joining Metal Blade, would probably have recorded something the label, or the metal public, would expect. The quartet, however, made no compromise at all; they did not change studio, producer or metallise the sound (quite the contrary - they seemed to go back even further into the 70s) - they simply presented once again classically delivered, quite melodic hard rock with an old sound and two lead guitars (and an acoustic one jangling at times in the background) - something like a slightly heavier Thin Lizzy (of the LP 'Black Rose' period) combined with old Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and very early Iron Maiden - but without speed-ups, rather. I remind you that 'Digital Resistance' is the first studio record made by the band after the CD/2LP 'Made In Poland' was made - released by my, that is, our, Polish Megadisc :-) The 15-minute promo film 'Made In Poland' is placed in the second music link. One more thing... The band will probably not conquer the metal world with its ambitious, heavy playing, but at least it turned out that, in promoting the band's music for years, I was probably right about its talent! What is there to write - the album is superb - like every one recorded by Mike and co. Perhaps not the best of their career, but certainly not inferior to any (excellent) title recorded after the CD "Atavism"! Most bands, on joining Metal Blade, would probably have recorded something the label, or the metal public, would expect. The quartet, however, made no compromise at all; they did not change studio, producer or metallise the sound (quite the contrary - they seemed to smooth it out even further) - they simply presented once again classically delivered, quite melodic hard rock with an old sound and two lead guitars (and an acoustic one jangling at times in the background) - something like a slightly heavier Thin Lizzy combined with old Judas Priest and very early Iron Maiden - but without speed-ups, rather.
