VARIOUS ARTISTS - I See You Live On Love Street - Music From Laurel Canyon 1967-1975 (3CD) - UK Grapefruit Edition

A three-disc set being an anthology of artists associated with Laurel Canyon, a district of Los Angeles. From the publisher: "We follow the development of the scene from The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Love and The Doors, to early country rock and the singer-songwriter boom that defined the early seventies. At the end of the sixties the international music world shifted from places such as Liverpool, London and San Francisco to Laurel Canyon, a rural oasis in the middle of the hubbub of Los Angeles. Just minutes from Hollywood, the Sunset Strip and the record labels and recording studios of Los Angeles, Laurel Canyon became home to a hybrid of folk, country, rock and pop that embraced everyone from The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, to The Doors, Frank Zappa, Glen Campbell and even The Monkees. The charm of the canyon and the proximity of the folk club The Troubadour attracted a mass of singers and songwriters, while at the same time giving rise to the country-rock movement, initiated by the collaboration of The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield (Dillard & Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco) and the former teen idol Ricky Nelson. Many unusual collaborations appeared, The Monkees worked with Frank Zappa, The Turtles sponsored Judee Sill and hung out with The Doors, Kim Fowley worked with both Steppenwolf and Warren Zevon, and individual members of CSN&Y appeared on various records." The whole thing comes in a cardboard box, with an illustrated, 48-page booklet inside. Highly recommended!
