THE ALPHA BAND - The Arista Albums (2 CD) - Acadia Records - UNIKALNY CD

The two-disc 2000 reissue collects the band's three studio albums: "The Alpha Band" (1976), "Spark in the Dark" (1977) and "The Statue Makers of Hollywood" (1977), showing its fairly consistent approach to songs based on the American tradition – with a distinct contribution from acoustic guitar, piano and sparing rhythm section arrangements. The sound relies on clearly led vocal lines and short, self-contained forms, rarely exceeding a few minutes. The compositions combine elements of folk rock and country with light touches of gospel and soul, but without extended structures – the emphasis is placed on melody and lyrics. The instrumental parts have a complementary function: there are short guitar inserts, occasional use of violin (Mansfield) and subtle keyboards, which reinforce but do not dominate the narrative.
