DEEP PURPLE - Live In Amsterdam, August 1969 - EU Sweet Leaf Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTEN

This is a limited CD, released in a small run, containing the first recorded concert with the then new vocalist Ian Gillan, which took place at the end of August 1969 at the Paradiso club in Amsterdam! This splendid 77-minute CD (a greatly improved and better-sounding version of the good old CD "Ritchie's Blues" from 1989) contains, among others, an early version of "Speed King" (here as the 9-minute "Kneel & Pray") and, leaving aside the version from the LP "Made In Japan", probably the best, brilliantly sung performance of "Child In Time" - a full eight months before the release of the LP "In Rock"! The sound quality is excellent (the source was a Dutch radio broadcast, from 1987), though in the first recording the sound engineers could not cope with the balance (no guitar for half of the recording), and "Mandrake Root" was faded out after five minutes. Fortunately, however, the publisher very neatly worked in the missing twelve minutes from two rare and professionally recorded other performances from the same period! Additionally included is an 11-minute version of "Paint In Black", which did not fit on the single CD "Live In Montreux, October 1969", also released by Sweet Leaf Records. A must! (JL)
